"Roald's Oxtail Stew"

Oxtail Stew

Roald Dahl
'Roald's Oxtail Stew'
Autograph manuscript of Roald Dahl's notes on the making of oxtail stew
for Felicity and Roald Dahl's book Memories of Food at Gipsy House, Viking, 1991 and later in paperback re–titled The Roald Dahl Cook Book
two pages in pencil and ballpoint on yellow ruled paper, 4to

Roald Dahl wrote all of his manuscripts on this distinctive yellow paper. Felicity and Roald Dahl collaborated on this book before Roald died at the end of 1990, and many of the illustrations in it are by Quentin Blake.

Food and drink and the social aspect of entertaining were highly important to both Roald and Felicity, and their extended family and friends were always welcome at meals at Gipsy House. They employed a string of young cooks who each spent a year working at Gipsy House. This book was published by Viking in 1991. It encompasses recipes and notes by Roald, Felicity, their cooks and friends, including Hangman's Suppers of Quentin Blake, P.D. James, Peter Ustinov and others.
