Introduction

This is from the introduction to the excerpt from Going Solo:

"Before writing his famous children's books, Roald Dahl (1916-1990) served as a British fighter pilot in World War II. After surviving a crash in Libya, Dahl was ordered to fly one of the new Hurricane fighters to Greece to join a small group of hopelessly outnumbered RAF pilots. Dahl had never flown in combat; worse, he'd never flown a modern fighter plane at all."
