Complete schedule of performances

Official press release:

The works of master story teller Roald Dahl are still as popular today with children all over the world as when they were first written and they regularly top polls of the best children's fiction. Now Edward Snape for Fiery Angel Ltd is mounting a new production of one of Dahl's best loved stories, The BFG or Big Friendly Giant, to celebrate the 20th anniversary of this book's original publication in 1982. The BFG will tour to more than 30 venues around the country until August 2002.

David Wood, dubbed the 'national children's playwright' by The Times, has ingeniously adapted The BFG and also directs this new production. The BFG was the first Dahl story he reworked for the stage in 1990 and since then he has also had great successes with his theatrical versions of 'The Witches' and 'The Twits'. Anthony Pedley, who first created the role of the BFG on stage and who looks uncannily like the original Quentin Blake drawings of the character, again takes the title role. The rest of the cast includes: Karen Briffett, Glen Hill, Anthony Hoggard, Verity Anne Meldrum, Carolyn Murray, Rebecca Rainsford and Grant Stimpson. Designs are by Susie Caulcutt, music by Peter Pontzen, lighting by Jeanine Davies and sound by Mike Furness. The musical supervisor is Jonathan Rutherford and the musical director is Andrew Higgs.

The BFG is one of Dahl's most exciting and original stories and tells how a young orphan, Sophie, gets snitched from her bed and whisked off to Giant Country by the BFG, a 15foot high giant with a jumbly way of talking. She narrowly escapes being guzzled like a whiffswhiddle by such nasty child-chewing giants as the Fleshlumpeater and the Bonecruncher but finally, with a little help from a certain royal person (and her corgi) Sophie and the BFG manage to stop the other giants eating any more human beans! Altogether a magical entertainment for all the family especially little chiddlers of 4 and upwards.

When first staged in1990/1 this brilliant children's play was a huge success with both audiences and critics alike all over the country and also played 2 triumphant seasons in the West End. Now there is a chance for a whole new generation of kids to fall in love with Dahl's wonderful characters on stage. The BFG is a great show for everyone who enjoys fun and adventure mixed with a large pinch of fantasy as only Dahl can!
